What To Bring To Belize & What To Leave At Home

When I’m searching for information, my biggest complaint is the crap I have to skim through to get to what I’m looking for – so Ill get right to the point…

CONTEXT

  • I am a 36 year old female
  • I traveled there alone
  • Travel date was early May
  • I stayed in San Ignacio, Belize City, and in San Pedro

BRING

1. Comfortable “hiking” sandals

I wore these the entirety of my trip and they were perfect!

2. “Sturdy” Swimsuits & Lots of them!

When I say sturdy, I mean not ones that tie or you are constantly battling from slippin’ the nip. I wore a swimsuit every day, as undergarments… there was no way in hell I was going to be sweaty in cotton underwear and bra all day. Somehow it feels better being sweaty in a swimsuit.

I have some of my favorites here.

3. Feminine Hygeine Products

I will not get started on my experience, just bring them, you don’t want to be stuck using 1/2-ply toilette paper for half a day!!

4. Charcoal Tablets

Whether you end up needing them or not, $10 is well worth the insurance. My stomach got me 2 days before I left. If I didn’t have these with me I would have spent my last two days in Belize… on the toilette. They literally worked almost immediately, it was amazing.

5. Portable Charger

I had Google Maps on 24/7, was taking pictures of everything via my phone, and/or had a GoPro strapped to my head. Though some rental vehicles may have a USB charger, mine didn’t. Plus, who wants to be leaving there devices charging in the car?? It’s a must for me ANYTIME I travel.

This bad boy will charge multiple devices for more than 5 days on 1 charge. I say “more”, because the longest I used it for was that long and it still had one dot left of battery. Oh, did I mention its cheap as shit?

6. Hair Oil/Leave-in Moisturizer

For some reason, anywhere hot (except for Hawaii) always wrecks havock on my hair, leaving it extra crispy and not that pretty and I never remember to bring anything for it…. which leads me to my next item-

7. A Hat

I literally wore this thing every-damn-day. It’s not only cute as shit, but releived me of the inevitable battle I would have had to endur with my extra crispy, sweaty mop of frizz I had going on.

< $20 at Target

8. BUG SPRAY

This is not an option. If you take anything away from this, let it be this. It’s amazing how quickly a creature the size of your pinkie nail, can ruin your day…. and night…

And BRING MULTIPLE TYPES!! Some do not work sometimes for God knows what reason, but if you can bust out another kind you have twice the odds of not being pestered.

I’ve heard many locals say that baby oil helps. Ill definety give it a shot next time.

9. Sunscreen.

I didn’t wear any until I went to San Pedro. I was wearing sunscreen when this happened lol.

Note: If your’e smarter that me, you’ll find a way to get better tanlines.

10. CASH CASH CASH!

Just trust me on this, if you plan to leave your resort, have plenty of cash. A lot of places don’t take cards there! FYI I didn’t find a place that wouldn’t accept USD, Not saying they don’t exist…

LEAVE AT HOME

  1. Blow Dryer or other hair appliance
  2. Bra & underwear (sub swim suit)
  3. Any fancy or heeled shoe
  4. Shoulder purses. Sadly, the fanny pack wins this one.
  5. Any makeup that you would leave your house without wearing (you wont wear it)
  6. Shitty attitudes & Karendous behavior
  7. Pants & Jackets. I kept reading it “gets cold in the evening”… bullshit if it does! Not in May anyways….
  8. Anything white
